Outreach

Welcome! Below you can read about my clubs and activities at Clemson University and the ways that they have shaped who I am as a person and a professional.

Clubs and Orgnizations

Clemson American Sign Language (ASL) Club

I have been a member of Clemson University's ASL Club since my freshman year. I participated in meetings at restaurants in town to meet new people and chat using ASL! I have made many friends and connections from the club and continue to attend when I am able. I have also participated in the annual signing of the Star Spangled Banner and Alma Mater at Clemson Football home games. I was inspired by this and decided my senior year to ask Tiger Band if I could do this at all of the home games. The band directors were more than accommodating and supportive of me from the beginning! After a few setbacks due to Covid-19, I was finally able to bring these two passions of mine together.

Clemson University Tiger Band

I have been a member of Clemson University Tiger Band sine 2018 as a sousaphone player. As a member of Tiger Band, I have built friendships, connections, and learned from my peers. We traveled together, won together, and even lost together. It has given me experience in teamwork, fellowship, and self expression. We were encouraged to be our most authentic selves, and the band has shown me that it is perfectly acceptable to ask for help and support when I need it. Through teamwork and the support of my peers, I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

Tiger MMA

As co-founder and treasurer of the Tiger MMA club, I was able to showcase and share another of my passions with my peers. It has given me exceptional leadership skills, helped me develop new methods for outreach to new people, and allowed me to share a healthy outlet for the stresses of college life with friends and strangers alike. In teaching others the skills that I have learned, it has refreshed my perspective on others who do not have the same skill set than I. It has allowed me to look for potential for growth, determination, and work ethic in others instead of having pre-conceived misconceptions. It has been a worthwhile endeavor, and I look forward to seeing where the club will go after I graduate and leave it in the hands of my co-founder.
